FIRST MONDAY APRIL 2007
Present were Sharon Paige, Janet Bloom, Catherine Sikora, Dotti Anita Taylor, Carol Sudhalter. Fran McIntyre stopped in briefly.
We listened to Sharon's rendition of "Give a Little Whistle" from Pinocchio, part of her work-in-progress to record the tunes of lyricist Ned Washington. Also listened to Josephine Livoti's "Sweet Happy Life".
After that, this really interesting and magical thing happened. With some direction from Janet Bloom, who does some work with specific types of visualization and imaging, we took out our flutes (Dotti and Carol) and soprano saxophone (Catherine) and Sharon added in her voice, and following a verbal description of an image, we all played together a spontaneous reaction to that description, following each other's very visual musical lines into a blend of color and harmony and thought and feeling that has never happened before at a First Monday! It developed in a very natural way, into a complete piece. Then we did another. By that time, it was sad to have to go home!! We all hope to do more of this.

Hello:)
Pleace check out our website: www.jcfk.no. We want to visit and colaborate with other similar project/cours/festivals with focus on girls (instrumentalists)and jazz, and we want participants from all over the world to our jazzcamp.
Jazzcamp for female instrumentalists
When: 9th to 14th of July.
Where: Trøndertun Folkehøgskole in Melhus, Sør-Trøndelag, Norway.
Who may attend: Girls, minimum 15 years old, who play an instrument and want to learn more about jazz and improvisation. Both beginners and experienced musicians.
Price: 3000 NOK (£370), incl. all workshops and seminars, board and lodging in a double room. Single room available for a higher price.
Teachers at the camp:
Maggi Olin (S), Sissel Vera Pettersen (N), Lisbeth Diers (DK), Nina De Heney(S).
The teachers are professional musicians and pedagogues. They will be sources of inspiration and give lectures/workshops and lead ensembles of attendees in improvisational training. Performing music at evening jam sessions, internal concerts and the final concert will be emphasized.
Background
The idea of this camp and initiative comes from Kristin Andresen, saxophonist, and Nina Kristine Linge, guitarist. We are both students at the jazz division
of Institute for Music, NTNU, in Trondheim, Norway.
We make up two thirds of female instrumentalists at this jazz division, and we'd like to see a future with more girls to play together with. Today, the jazz is
on par with the stone age when it comes to equality. The reason behind this is complex: The image of the jazz, conservative traditions, lack of female ideals, etc. There has been a focus on females and jazz in the press recently, but there is a lack of an active arrangement with focus on girls. Positive and special treatment promotes equality, and this camp has the purpose of being both inspirational and motivating to recruit girls to the jazz scene. This camp
may change the minds of girls, parents, music and culture related schools, conservatories, change attitudes in the society, and in the long term enrich the jazz community with more female instrumentalists.
The camp will be an annual gathering, and it will function as a meeting point and give the attendees a bigger network.
